Numeracy at Opaki School

 

At Opaki School, we run a structured, progressive numeracy programme that closely follows the expectations of the New Zealand Maths curriculum. Students are taught from an early age, the value of being able to use a range of strategies to confidently and successfully solve mathematical problems. Classrooms teachers use a variety of methods to teach children the mathematical concepts that are built on from year to year. Resources and equipment used alongside teaching methods are regularly updated and revised. Groupwork and targeted teaching is a part of classroom programmes and results are tracked over the course of each year.

 


     

BASIC FACTS FOCUS AT OPAKI SCHOOL

As part of our committment to improving the basic facts knowledge of all students at Opaki School, we use a variety of approaches to teaching and assessing basic facts knowledge. Among our teaching tools is the use of ICT as a teaching and learning tool. Students have been utilising an engaging website - multiplication games - to practise their times tables (see photo below).
